English skills

As part of our Duty of Care to residents and their families it is essential that our nurses possess the English language skills specified by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

Your overall command of English (listening/speaking/reading/writing) must be of a level that is high enough to allow you to:

a) Communicate effectively with residents and their families in one-to-one and group situations

b) Assist residents in communicating their needs and making informed decisions

c) Eliminate communication barriers that may confuse/frustrate residents

d) Communicate effectively with your colleagues and external healthcare professionals assigned to residents

e) Effectively complete medical records for residents within a legal and ethical framework
