Documentation

In order to start a career as a nurse in Ireland you will need to possess three key documents that confirm your qualifications and identity.

Degree Certificate

It is imperative that you can present a physical copy of your Nursing Degree Award Certificate from a recognised European institute.

Valid Passport

To work in Ireland – and get a PPS Number – you will need a valid EU Passport. Ideally, your passport should be valid for at least six months after your commencement date. This will save you the complication of applying for a new passport from your Embassy while you are completing your probation period.

Written References

HIQA guidelines dictate that all nurses need to present two references on official stationery, ideally from your current and former employers. If necessary, you can include a placement as a reference but you will need a testimonial from a Clinical Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing. If you are a graduate nurse, references from your lecturers and any previous employers will suffice.
